It Can Be A Breeze!
Potty training is one of the most common dreaded parts of getting a new puppy, but with the right training information and tips, it can be a breeze! It is important to know that pottying wherever and whenever is natural to Alaskan Klee Kai and other puppies.
For them to be trained otherwise, they must be old enough to control their urge to go, as well as have some type of motivation for them to want to potty outside rather than inside. Most puppies are ready to begin potty training at around eight and a half weeks old.
Potty Time
Alaskan Klee Kai puppies tend to be extremely adventurous and curious. If you allow them to just roam outside during potty time, they will likely get distracted and forget that they need to go potty. This can lead to them having an accident inside shortly after you bring them back in. Below are a few tips that can help.
Control Their Indoor Space
When inside, it is important that you limit and control the space that your Alaskan Klee Kai has access to. Start with providing them access to just one room or space by using baby gates or puppy pens to confine them, and make sure that they are always supervised. Once they have proven to you that they are trustworthy in one room, you can begin providing them with access to one additional room at a time.
Additionally, make sure that you are using a properly sized crate for your puppy. Dogs in general do not like to sleep where they go to the bathroom, so by properly sizing their crate to give them just enough space to lay down comfortably, you will help prevent them from having accidents in their crate at night or while you are away.
