What You Need To Know About Pet First Aid: Klee Kai Puppy Edition
SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL TO LEARN MORE TIPS AND TRICKS!If you are the proud pet parent of an Alaskan Klee Kai puppy, then you need to know about pet first aid. These adorable dogs are known for their playful personalities and loving nature, but they can also be a bit rambunctious. In the event that your pup gets injured or becomes ill, it is important to know how to provide them with proper care. That's where pet first aid comes in. In this blog post, Kika's Klee Kai, the top-rated Klee Kai breeder, will discuss the basics of pet first aid for Alaskan Klee Kai puppies.
Suffocation
Puppies like to chew on everything, and in the event they accidentally get something caught in their throat, it's important to know what to do. The first step is to remain calm. Next, try to dislodge the object by gently sweeping your finger along the inside of their cheek. If this does not work, you will need to perform the Heimlich maneuver. To do this, stand behind your pup and make a fist with one hand. Place your thumb side against their abdomen, just below the rib cage. Grab your fist with your other hand and give a quick upward thrust. Repeat this until the object is dislodged.
Heatstroke
Alaskan Klee Kai puppies are prone to heatstroke since they have a thick coat of fur. It's important to keep an eye on them during hot weather, and provide them with plenty of water to prevent dehydration. If you notice your pet panting heavily, drooling excessively, or acting lethargic, these are signs of heatstroke. To cool them down, wet their fur with cool (not cold) water and place them in front of a fan. You should also call your veterinarian immediately.
Cuts & Scrapes
Cuts and scrapes are common injuries in puppies, since they are always exploring and getting into things. If your pet has a minor cut or scrape, you can clean it with warm water and mild soap. Apply pressure if the bleeding is constant, and cover the wound with a sterile bandage. If the wound is more serious, you can try and stop the bleeding by applying pressure with clean towels or gauze, then make sure you call your veterinarian immediately.
Broken Bones
If you suspect your pet has a broken bone, it is important to seek professional help right away. In the meantime, you can try and splint the injured limb to immobilize it. To do this, use a piece of wood or cardboard that is slightly longer than the limb. Place it on either side of the limb and secure it in place with gauze or tape. Once the limb is immobilized, call your veterinarian for further instructions.
